As 2014 draws to an end it looks as though ownership of at least three, if not four, of the UK’s largest rental may change as we go into 2015. Ever since October - when news broke that the investors in UK crane rental company Ainscough Crane Hire were looking to sell their stakes - there has been a significant rise in activity, as funds with money to invest look at getting in on what they see as the lucrative and growing UK rental market. With analyst activity picking up rapidly in November and the start of December, it looks as though … [Read more...]
Crawler crane loses its boom
The boom of crawler crane working on a new theatre in Blenheim on New Zealand’s South Island, collapsed over the back of the machine this morning. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident. It looks as though either the boom luffing hoist did not stop while luffing in, or the operator managed to badly ‘two block’ the 100 tonne Hitachi crane. It was not lifting anything at the time the boom went over the back. WorkSafe has been informed of the incident That is all the information that we have at this time, but will update this report … [Read more...]

Crane into the void in France
A self-erecting mobile tower crane overturned onto the roof of a famous hotel/restaurant in France on Monday, after one of its outriggers punched through the tarmac drive into an underground void. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident and the crane operator was well away from the crane at the time, operating it via the remote controls, which is just as well, as it looks as though the elevating operators cab took most of the impact and was buried in the roof. We do not know if mats were used to spread the load on what are clearly … [Read more...]
