Manitowoc show Algerian ambition

Manitowoc has said it intends to use two Algerian trade shows, Batimatec and Algiers International Fair, to demonstrate its determination to expand and develop in country. The firm is showcasing a Potain self-erecting crane and Grove rough-terrain crane at the events with two of its local dealers, Sarl VIBA and Eurl MGP.

The manufacturer said that as well as its direct sales and support services, it would work closely with its dealers in Algeria who supply its full range of Potain tower cranes, Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes. The dealers will also provide complete after-market services including technical assistance, assembly, handling and training.

Carlos Pimenta, Manitowoc area manager for Algeria, said: “Demand for our cranes in Algeria has steadily increased over the past few years and the country’s growing economy makes us very ambitious for this exciting market. We have operated in Algeria for many years and have built a strong dealer network and widespread support service. Now is our time to build on this foundation, and these two trade shows are an ideal way for us to showcase our capabilities and highlight our desire to grow.”

Tadano launch crane for Singapore market

Tadano has launched a new truck crane for the Singapore market, the GS-600EX. The crane features a 60t capacity with a 42m five-section hexagonal box boom, and a Scania carrier with right-side steering. The Japanese company described Singapore as one of its most important markets in Southeast Asia.

Customers in the country require right-side steering truck cranes that meet emission control regulations and can drive on public roads. In response to customer requests, Tadano designed the crane so it could be driven on public roads without having to dismount the counterweight. The vehicle also meets local emission control regulations.

The crane also comes with the firms Hello-Net tracking system, which allows the customer to monitor their crane activity, work history, machine position data, and maintenance information. The GS-600EX is also equipped with AML, a safety device that includes hydraulically-operated four-point outriggers, slewable front and H-type rear outriggers. Outriggers can be controlled simultaneously or independently from either side of the carrier.

Iraq orders 7 Tadano truck cranes

The Republic of Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources has taken delivery of seven 55 tonne Tadano GT-550E-2 truck cranes from the company’s distributor United Iraqi Trading Equipment.

Manufactured by Tadano’s Chinese manufacturing joint venture BQ-Tadano, the four axle GT-550 features a five section 42 metre boom plus a 8.8 to 15.2 metres bi-fold swingaway that takes maximum tip height to 56 metres. Capacity on the fully extended main boom is eight tonne and it can handle 500kg at a radius of 38.1 metres.

The cranes have been purchased for various departments within Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources with three being sent to the General Commission for Operation of Irrigation & Drainage, two to the General Commission for Groundwater, one to the State Commission for Dams & Reservoirs and the final one to the Department of General Estuary.

Truck boom destroyed

A boom truck lifting a large air conditioning unit in Mentor, Ohio yesterday overturned, with the boom coming down on to a row of parked cars.

The crane, a Terex Stinger 4700, owned and operated by Buckeye Crane & Rigging of Independence, Ohio was contracted to deliver and place the unit by Viking Refrigeration. The operator escaped uninjured and thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.

It is clear from the photos that we have received that the cause was due to the front outrigger – to the rear of the lift direction, was either not set or managed to fully retract. The rear outrigger on that side was only partially extended. It looks as though the load was then slewed over the partially extended stabiliser and the crane went over.

Buckeye sent another boom truck to the scene to rescue the fallen crane. In spite of all that happened the rescue crane never bothered to use out outrigger mats and the slinging might have raised a few questions in some quarters, but all was well and the crane was uprighted, liberating the crushed cars to be towed.

Crane hits car in Maine

A woman was badly injured when she drove out in front of a crane yesterday in Chelsea, Maine.

Police say that Sally Gousse, 76, pulled out of her driveway and into the path of the truck crane, owned by W. H. Green and Sons of nearby Vassalboro. The crane’s driver Eugene Green swerved to try and avoid her but ended up striking the driver’s side of the car.

The car was totalled while the crane was barely damaged.
