Germany’s Reutlingen fire brigade rescue crane

Germany’s Reutlingen fire brigade has taken delivery of a 70 tonne Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 fire and rescue crane designed for emergency operations.

The new crane has been fitted with a range of fire service and safety equipment such as emergency lights, sirens, electrically adjustable floodlights and a reversing camera. It has also been fitted with an eight tonne recovery winch on the rear of the crane as well as special storage boxes.

Similar to the standard LTM 1070-4.2 All Terrain crane in terms of performance, it offers 12 tonne axle loads, with 10.2 tonnes of counterweight on board as well as the bi-fold swingaway boom extension and hook blocks. As well as offering good off-road capability and manoeuvrability due to its all-wheel drive and active rear axle steering, the crane has also been supplied with Liebherr’s VarioBase outrigger set up system.

The crane will be used to cover road traffic accidents involving large vehicles, for rescuing people, for hoisting loads and for securing actions at after explosions or structure collapses.

Reutlingen Brigade Service commander, Harald Hermann, said: “The modern machine is needed by the fire brigade to meet the increased requirements for technical rescues. It replaces a 24 year old 30 tonne model which was no longer economical due to its high repair costs and frequent breakdowns. What is more, it no longer satisfied the increased requirements, particularly those relating to the higher weights of trucks.”

Liebherr has delivered more than 100 fire and rescue cranes throughout Europe over the past 40 years, with capacities of between 25 and 70 tonnes.

Terex adds 5500 model to Explorer series

Terex Cranes expanded its Explorer series by adding a new Explorer 5500 model in the 143-ton capacity class.

The new crane features a 60-meter long main boom with three extensions of 11, 21, and 33 meters in length available, all of which can be offset. The maximum system length is 86.5 meters. The maximum load moment is 435 tons, with the maximum lifting capacity when telescoping is 27 tons. Outrigger extension positions of 2.54, 4.7, and 7.0 meters can be selected. With a carrier length of 12.1 meters, a total length of 14.3 meters, and a width of 2.75 meters, this 5-axle crane is more compact than any other in its capacity class, which enables it to be used inside cities as well as on narrow construction sites. In addition, steerable axles provide good maneuverability in tight quarters. For comfort and safety in driving operation the new Explorer 5500 crane has a dynamic launch control function that prevents the crane from rolling backwards when starting up and maneuvering on uphill grades.

The Explorer 5500 crane can be adapted to fulfill the road service approval regulations of key markets for this capacity class. This is possible with variable axle loads and axle pair intervals, the dismountable main boom, transport dolly preparation, a maximum front overhang of 1.52 meters, and other features.

Garden bridge lift for Otto Fischer

Transport and crane service provider Otto Fischer chose a Tadano ATF 220G-5 all terrain crane to lift a bridge at the state garden show in Saxony, Germany.

Otto Fischer was contracted to carry out the logistics, construction and lifting of the bridge. The pedestrian bridge weighed 24 tonnes and the 220 tonner lifted the bridge 35 metres in the air, before placing it into position. During the lift the team had to contend with a small working area. The ATF 220G-5 was configured with its full 71 tonnes of counterweight and worked at a radius of 19 m.

Thomas Fischer, Otto Fischer managing director, said, “We are pleased to have the extremely reliable ATF 220G-5 in our fleet, it is very often in use. The ATF 220G-5 is an excellent machine in this class, due to its good load bearing capacity values.”

Tiong Woon adds five Groves

Lifting and transport specialist Tiong Woon has taken delivery of five new 300 tonne capacity Manitowoc Grove all terrains to add to its crane rental fleet.

The Singapore-based company marked the addition of the GMK6300L models in a ceremony held during the Bauma China construction industry exhibition in Shanghai at the end of November. Tiong Woon Crane & Transport, 15th in the IC50 ranking of the world’s largest crane rental companies, now has 18 Groves in its fleet of more than 300 wheeled mobile and crawler cranes.

At the ceremony KH Ang, Tiong Woon chairman, commented, “Grove cranes are very popular units with our customers. When the Grove GMK6300L was launched in 2010 we could see that its onboard innovation gave it capabilities that other cranes didn’t have, particularly with its 80 metre boom. We watched the arrival of the first units in Asia with interest and quickly realised that this crane would be a great solution for many of our customers. It was only a matter of time until we ordered our own, and we saw such strong potential for the GMK6300L that we ordered five units.”

Grove has sold hundreds of units of its six-axle, 80 m boom GMK6300L since it was unveiled in IC magazine in April 2010. Tiong Woon’s other Groves include GMK3055 and GMK5095 all terrains and RT760E and RT890E rough terrains.
