Repeat port order for Terex

German port operator Eurogate has ordered 15 Terex NSC 634E straddle carriers after ordering the same number earlier this year.

Set for delivery at the start of 2015, the 60 tonne diesel-electric NSC 634E straddle carriers are capable of lifting one over two containers. They are also fitted with Terex’s NTS 62F twin-lift spreaders, which are hydraulically braced in order to limit damage in the event of a collision.

Eurogate managing director Peter Zielinski, said: “Straddle carriers and spreaders form a powerful package that impressed us. A TPS service center is also located directly on our terminal premises and the service technicians are always available via the hotline. This helps us to maintain the availability of all Terex straddle carriers at our terminal.”

Terex launches digital app for crane companies

This week Terex Cranes introduced Cranes Expert, the lifting industry’s first electronic application designed specifically for crane companies. This app delivers available equipment information in ways not possible with printed literature by giving customers unprecedented access to the company’s expansive range of media information.

Available for both iOS and Android operating systems, the new Cranes Expert app puts specific Terex crane model information at customer’s fingertips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It brings together all available crane model marketing information –equipment brochures, datasheets, photography, 3-D panoramic views and videos – into one convenient location, so lifting equipment companies can make more informed buying decisions.

“Using the Cranes Expert App, customers can now see the full Terex story for themselves,” says Sven Ebinger, Director of Global Communication and Brand Management for Terex Cranes. “Our app goes well beyond the printed piece of literature. In one user-friendly program, customers now have access to our entire media library.”

When new crane information is added to the media library, the application will automatically sync with Terex Cranes servers when opened, so the new items are quickly available for download. A “push” notification system will proactively alert customers when updates are available.

“Cranes Expert is just one more example of how we are making Terex Cranes easier to do business with for the customer,” said Ebinger.

Six Terex RTGs for Manila

Philippines-based cargo and passenger terminal operator Manila North Harbour Port has ordered an additional six Terex rubber-tyred gantry cranes.

Manufactured at Terex Port Solutions’ facility in Xiamen, China, the 40.6 tonne gantry cranes have a lift height of 18.1 metres, a one over five configuration and can stack up to six containers wide plus a truck lane. The terminal operator previously took delivery of four units last year.

Manila North Harbour Port chief executive Richard Barclay, said: “We continue to invest in the modernisation of our infrastructure in order to develop and transform our facilities into a first-class port. The four RTG cranes have more than fulfilled our expectations, and so did the after-sales service provided. It was a logical decision to opt for TPS with a view to a further expansion of our capacities.”

Terex adds 5500 model to Explorer series

Terex Cranes expanded its Explorer series by adding a new Explorer 5500 model in the 143-ton capacity class.

The new crane features a 60-meter long main boom with three extensions of 11, 21, and 33 meters in length available, all of which can be offset. The maximum system length is 86.5 meters. The maximum load moment is 435 tons, with the maximum lifting capacity when telescoping is 27 tons. Outrigger extension positions of 2.54, 4.7, and 7.0 meters can be selected. With a carrier length of 12.1 meters, a total length of 14.3 meters, and a width of 2.75 meters, this 5-axle crane is more compact than any other in its capacity class, which enables it to be used inside cities as well as on narrow construction sites. In addition, steerable axles provide good maneuverability in tight quarters. For comfort and safety in driving operation the new Explorer 5500 crane has a dynamic launch control function that prevents the crane from rolling backwards when starting up and maneuvering on uphill grades.

The Explorer 5500 crane can be adapted to fulfill the road service approval regulations of key markets for this capacity class. This is possible with variable axle loads and axle pair intervals, the dismountable main boom, transport dolly preparation, a maximum front overhang of 1.52 meters, and other features.
